The Skills Centre, Iasi, Romania
Fundatia Link Romania Moldavia
is an independant Romanian registered Christian charity
promoting a culture of dignity and respect by acknowledging the human potential within every person and encouraging personal autonomy and self-sustainability.
Since we started to work with the poor, before 1998, when we legally established the charity, with the help of some wonderful people from England, God helped us to achieve many goals, and there are many items in our list that make us feel that we did not work in vain:
We worked with hundreds of children, Romanian and Roma, from orphanages, children’s hospital, shanty town, poor rural communities or homeless; we have organized different courses to learn skills, such as hairstyle or entrepreneur, and we have also transported Roma children to State owned school
We worked in many rural communities, building or purchasing houses for the poor, building wells, chicken coups, pig sties, connecting homes to electricity; we offered accommodation to people who were in desperate situation
We helped literally hundreds of people to get identification papers in order to come to “existence”; without them they did not even exist in the Government’s books; we offered also legal support when they faced difficulties with the law; we also helped them to get allowance for being blind, or having severe hepatitis or diabetes
We gave food parcels for tens of families, both on a monthly basis or when it was desperately needed
We organized a street paper, such as The Big Issue in England, to help the homeless or the poor to get an income
We are also in contact with other groups that are doing different sort of projects. So if somebody didn’t find help, we gladly referred to other charities (AIDS, single mothers, etc).
You can see the history of building the house, helped by English volunteers.
